Wise Guy, I married him!

Wise Guy, I married him over 38 years ago. Wise guy, do you know one? Well I married one and his name is Charlie Morris so humor me! While working through the growing pains of website construction I thought it might be nice to have a section that my other half could call his own. A place where he could share his thoughts, humor and ideas. I decided to write this first post to let you know a little bit more about my wise guy. He is not normally one to show off or draw attention to himself…he would rather others be in the limelight. So it is going to take some pushing and prodding to get him going. Kind of like getting him to mow the grass the first time in the spring…Charlie would prefer the grass to be knee high. Something about global warming and fumes in our environment.

Charlie and I have been married for over 38 years. WOW you say! I can’t believe it either. I didn’t say they were 38 good ones. But divorce lawyers cost a lot of money. It seems like each year brings its own set of challenges around life with Charlie. Being a wise guy is only part of his DNA make up as I am sure you will get to see up close and personal.

Charlie is my resident George Carlin type guy…although his language is usually not as rough as George’s was Charlie still gets his point across. His point - whether you want to hear it or not. He always tells me that he has earned the right to speak his mind. And I must say I agree with him on that one item.

Charlie spent most of his early life on a beef cattle farm in northern Maryland. That was where he learned that honesty, hard work (and there was plenty of that) and dependability were values to believe in and practice. At 19, Uncle Sam called his name and off he went to serve his country. Keep in mind in that time of history our government was right all the time. It was years later that we learned that kneeling under our desks at school would not save us from a nuclear attack. Putting our hands over our heads wouldn’t have helped at all…but the government said that was what we needed to do. We have come a long way baby!

I am sure you can tell where I am leading you - yep - right into the Vietnam war. Charlie was lucky to spend some quality time in South East Asia which I am sure he will give more detail on later. Thankfully he survived Vietnam although he was seriously wounded and did lose his right eye. Coming home was a traumatic time for Charlie because he did not feel whole any longer, he had trouble understanding why college students were calling him names and he had difficulty re-adjusting into a society that had changed so much.

Charlie’s Wise Guy section will be his outlet to express his views and ideas. Oh, I must also tell you that both Charlie and I were in the credit, real estate and financial meltdown last fall. Our company closed its doors and our 15+ years was gone - POOF! After a great deal of soul searching and job hunting we finally realized that we wanted to not put all our eggs in 1 basket anymore. We wanted more in life than just a 9-5 job and to be perfectly honest most employers thought we were too experienced (too old) so we have chosen a new path as baby boomers often do. We in turn honestly want to help others prosper and grow so that they will never face our type of situation.

Working now consists of walking from the kitchen to the office in our home. Maybe 20 seconds if you walk slow. Charlie decided to give you a photo for your funny wall, you know the spot you hang all those crazy jokes. So as I end this post and turn it over to Charlie I have included his first bit of humor. If you have the time please drop Charlie a line so he can get your view on the world. Have a great day and remember smile alot - it really does make people wonder what you are up to! Oh and by the way, being married to wise guy named Charlie Morris is really not so bad!
